   Mikey - Christmas '98. This is the story of Mikey, our son, who was born on October 5, 1998 with Trisonomy 21 (also known as Down Syndrome) and Atrioventricular Canal heart defect. This defect means that too much blood is being pumped through his lungs and not enough to the rest of his body causing the oxygenated blood to get mixed in with the non oxygenated blood. Mikey underwent surgery on March 5, 1999 to repair this defect and he is doing great!  Mikey & Mom. Mikey is an amazing little guy! Since birth he has been rolling over! He likes to sit up and to be held in a standing position. He loves country music and likes to be read to and sung to. He is amazing his Doctors by doing things that ordinarily infants with Down Syndrome are not able to do at this age. Mikey is an only child and is very loved by his parents - (Debbie & Tony) and his whole family! He has brought so much happiness to our lives and we cannot imagine our life without Mikey in it. The purpose of this page is to keep friends and family updated on his condition and to provide support to others going through what we are going through. We are sharing Mikey's story in hopes that someday we will be able to provide support - emotionally to other families.
